生灵涂炭的典故

后燕、后秦联合攻打前秦，于是前秦的国都长安被人包围，苻坚因此退到五将山，等待有适当的机会能重新再来。后来苻坚被后秦活捉处死，苻坚的儿子苻丕就一直驻在邺城。不过，前秦的幽州刺史王永听说苻坚已经死了，就请苻丕到晋阳，在王永等人的拥护下，当了皇帝。苻丕当上皇帝以后，加封王永为左丞相。王永写了一篇召告，想号召前秦的部队去讨伐后秦和后燕。公告中说：“自从苻坚被害，国都长安沦陷后，国家就开始一蹶不振哪！老百姓好像生活在泥沼和炭火之中，十分痛苦。各地官员接到这份召告以后，就要派出兵马到临晋会师，准备作战。”可惜后秦的军队实在太强大了，王永无法获得胜利，前秦也逐渐衰落，不久后就被后秦消灭了。
