汉武帝时，匈奴单于即位，想与汉朝改善关系。汉武帝派苏武作为使节访问匈奴，由于匈奴内部变故，单于扣押了苏武，百般折磨他，让降将张胜、李陵来劝降他，苏武坚贞不屈，高风亮节，誓死不降，受到人们的尊重和爱戴。
