河伯为患的典故

《抱朴子》里记载一个传说，曾经有个叫做冯夷的人，因为渡河的时候不小心淹死了，所以天帝就封他为河伯。但是，在战国魏文候的时候，发生过和河伯有关的故事。

西门豹是当时魏国的邺县县令。他一到邺县上任，就调查清楚地方上的三老和廷掾一起勾结了巫师骗钱。这些人恐吓老百姓说：「河伯每年要娶一个妻子，否则这里一定会发生水灾。」他们不但搜刮老百姓很多钱，还淹死了不少女孩。于是，西门豹为了整顿当地的风气，就决定要铲除这些人。他利用智慧，骗三老和巫师说那女孩并不美丽，河伯不会满意，因此要三老、廷掾和巫师转告河伯，然后二话不说就把那些人丢入河中。

后来，西门豹带着老百姓开挖水道，引来河水灌溉农田，老百姓从此便过得很幸福，也不再担心河伯的问题了。
