断头将军的典故

张飞（字益德）是刘备手下一员猛将。 曹操占领了荆州，刘备去投奔江南。曹操率领数万骑兵追了一日一夜，追到当阳长阪桥。在危难关头，张飞带着二十多骑兵拒后。张飞在桥上横枪跃马，喝道：“我是张益德，谁敢上来决一死战！”曹操大军没有一人敢上前的。

刘备入川时，张飞在江州攻破巴郡，活捉巴郡太守严颜。张飞对严颜喝斥道：“我的大军到了，你为什么不投降，还敢抵抗？”严颜说：“你们没有道义，夺我州郡，我州只有断头将军，没有投降将军。” 张飞大怒，令推出砍头，严颜面色不变，便往外走便回头骂道：“匹夫！砍头便砍头，也用不着发怒！”张飞觉得严颜有骨气，就把他放了，并向他道歉，严颜感其恩义，才投降。
