（584—617）绛州龙门人，字仲淹。幼好学。仕隋为蜀郡司户书佐。文帝仁寿间至长安上太平十二策。后知所谋不被用，乃归河汾间以教授为业，受业者以千数，时称“河汾门下”。薛收、房乔、李靖、魏徵等皆从受王佐之道。尝仿《春秋》作《元经》(一作《六经》)，又著《中说》(一称《文中子》)。其言论不为儒者所称，惟《中说》留于后世。卒，门人私谥“文中子”。
