南岐在秦蜀山谷中，其水甘而不良，凡饮之者辄病瘿，故其地之民无一人无瘿者。及见外方人至，则群小妇人聚观而笑之曰：“异哉，人之颈也！焦而不吾类！”外方人曰：“尔垒然凸出于颈者，瘿病之也，不求善药去尔病，反以吾颈为焦耶？”笑者曰：“吾乡之人皆然，焉用去乎哉！”终莫知其为丑。

译文
南岐这个地方在四川的山谷中，这里的水甘甜却水质不好，凡饮用它的人都会患上颈瘤病，所以这里的居民都没有不得颈瘤病的。 当看到有外地人来，就有一群小孩妇女围观取笑他，说：“外地人的脖子好奇怪，（脖子）细小一点也不像我们。” 外地人说：“你们在脖子那肿大是得了病，你不去寻找药来祛除你的病，反而认为我的脖子是细小的呢？”取笑他的人说：“我们乡里的人都是这样的，不用去治的！”最终没有谁知道自己是丑的。
注释
瘿(yǐng)：颈瘤病，即颈上生囊状瘤子。
群小：贬称见识浅陋的人。
焦而不吾类：（脖子）细小一点也不像我们。焦，干枯，这里形容人的脖子细。类，类似。
垒然：形容臃肿的样子。
