花气霭芳芬，翠幕重帘不染尘。梦里真香通鼻观，氤氲。不是婷婷倩女魂。
细蕊缀纷纷，淡粉轻脂最可人。懒与凡葩争艳冶，清新。赢得嘉名自冠群。
南乡子·咏瑞香鉴赏
词作于戊午（1858年）至葵亥（1863年）之间。
瑞香属木木花种，香气馥郁是最重要的特点。这首咏花词，上片集中赞叹它的芳香。说它“花气霭芬芳”，如团团云雾久久不散，以致令“翠幕重帘不染尘”，灰尘也被香雾驱走了。又说它“梦里真香通鼻观，氤氲”，它已不是花香，而是能使通体澄明虚静的一种梦里真香，如佛家修炼获得的通透鼻观的内心感受。因而又怀疑它莫不是倩女的离魂就在这里。香气异常抽象，以瑞香的馥郁感受，不是一个统称的“香”可以说清，词人调动了各种方法来表现它，获得了艺术的效果。下片着重写花的品格和姿色的可爱。“细蕊缀纷纷”，是说它花蕊细小，多而密，好像连缀在一起的样子。瑞香有不同品种，词人又特别举出“淡粉轻脂”的一种“最可人”。从一般到个别。又说它色泽淡雅，“懒与凡葩争艳冶”，见之有一种“清新”之感。这里又通过词人的主观品鉴，赞扬了它的品格高雅，甘为寂寞。它“赢得嘉名”并不是去与凡葩争奇斗妍获得的，是自然而然获得的，即所谓桃李无言，下自成蹊。人们喜爱它，才“自冠群”，自成为群芳之冠。上下两片层次分明。瑞香以香著称，所以值得注意的是词人从多方面多角度，以及不同的方法来表现它的这一突出特点，几近于可触可摸。

顾太清（1799-1876），名春，字梅仙。原姓西林觉罗氏，满洲镶蓝旗人。嫁为贝勒奕绘的侧福晋。她为现代文学界公认为“清代第一女词人”。晚年以道号“云槎外史”之名著作小说《红楼梦影》，成为中国小说史上第一位女性小说家。其文采见识，非同凡响，因而八旗论词，有“男中成容若（纳兰性德），女中太清春（顾太清）”之语[1] 。顾太清不仅才华绝世，而且生得清秀，身量适中，温婉贤淑。令奕绘钟情十分。虽为侧福晋一生却诞育了四子三女，其中几位儿子都有很大作为。
