译文
桂树的绿叶青翠欲滴，仿佛是用碧云剪裁出来的，青青的叶片低垂着，保护着它那像金子碎屑一样的黄色花朵。它独占了花中的美誉，无论是它那优雅的气质还是幽郁的香气，两样都称得上是花中的极品，无谁能比。桂花已达到了无法再圣洁的程度，你若不信就听我说说它非同一般的来处。你抬头望望天上那轮皎洁的月光，嫦娥轻逸地把长袖挥舞，白玉做成的台阶映射着银色的光辉，金碧辉煌的宫殿沐浴着一层甘露。那就是月宫，桂花就在那里生长。
注释
绿云剪叶：指翠绿的桂叶仿佛云朵裁剪而成。
黄金屑：桂花的金黄色花蕊。
占断：占尽。
清洁：形容桂花品性的高洁。
仙衣犹带，金庭露，玉阶月：指桂花乃天上仙树，带着月宫的玉露和光芒。
霜天晓角·桂花鉴赏
这是一首咏桂花的咏物词。但在词中，作者借物寓怀，陈义甚高。上片，写桂花的形象与高洁的气质。“绿云剪叶，低护黄金屑。”描绘桂花枝叶的形状，花的色泽，写出了桂花与其他花卉的不同。“占断花中声誉”，它占尽了花中的声名，为什么呢？“香与韵、两清洁”。两句话，六个字，道尽了桂花的佳处。可谓知其要者，一言而终。历来咏桂花的诗词不少，唐宋之问《灵隐寺》诗：“桂子月中落，天香云外飘。”又，《早发始兴江口至虚氐村作》诗：“桂香多露裛，石响细泉回。”咏桂花之香。刘禹锡《答乐天所寄咏怀目释其枯树之叹》：“莫羡三春桃与李，桂花成实向秋容。”赞美桂花果实之美。苏轼诗：“江云漠漠桂花湿，梅雨翛翛荔子然。”然，同燃，形容荔枝色红如火。李清照《鹧鸪天·桂花》：“何须浅碧深红色，自是花中第一流。”都是称颂桂花的花色之美。然而，谢懋的“香与韵，两清洁。”却言简意赅，一语道破了桂花的佳妙之处。下片抒情。过片处“胜绝，君听说”。承上片趣旨，极度赞美桂花的绝佳。“试看仙衣犹带，金庭露、玉阶月。”相传月中有一棵桂树，诗人常用月光皎洁，桂枝飘香，形容秋夜景致。金庭、玉阶，都是天宫的庭院。这里用“玉阶月”结束全篇。正如过片所说的：“胜绝”！
