译文
为什么宽掩了绸裙？是因为肌肤损削，玉腰消瘦。吃饭不愿沾匙，睡觉像翻饼一般折腾，呼气细微像游丝。但只要能生活在一起不害怕性命，果然是真心诚意，万死也不推辞。可惜白白地闹腾这么久，本来是结发夫妻的欢乐生活，到头来却成了彻骨的相思。

为玉削肌肤：因为玉体减少了肌肤，即人消瘦了。
香褪腰肢：腰肢瘦了。
游丝：空中飘飞的细珠丝，比喻气息微弱。
遮莫：即使。
折桂令·寄远鉴赏
起首一问，实是自怨自艾，却引起了读者的注意。裙儿宽掩，自然是因为身体减瘦的缘故，以下接出“玉削肌肤，香褪腰肢”的答案，自在意料之中。但我们并不觉得累赘，这是因为它强调了女主角的消瘦憔悴，且从“玉”、“香”的字样中，暗示了她在此前的年轻美丽。“自从别后减容光”，古代年轻女子玉削香褪，谁都知道这是怎么一回事。然而本曲所写女主角相思断肠的表现却不同寻常，细腻如绘而又令人触目惊心。“饭不沾匙，睡如翻饼，气若游丝”，活画出一位吃不香、睡不着、病恹恹的多情女子的形象。这三句同往后徐再思《蟾宫曲·春情》的“身似浮云，心如飞絮，气若游丝”，都是曲中善于言情的名句。女子忍受着相思的折磨，而作者则进一步揭示出她一往情深、至死不悔的内心世界。“得受用”的两句对仗，纯用方言口语，内容十分感人。支持着女子的信念，仅是“受用”与“实诚”，但即使以现代的眼光来看，这两点也已深得爱情真谛的精粹。末尾的三句，显示了事与愿违的结局；语中虽含怨意，却仍表现出她不甘现状，愿为争取美满理想的实现而继续作出牺牲的心志。既有缠绵悱恻的外部表现，又有坚贞不渝的内心独白，这就使读者不能不为女主角生发出深切的同情。
值得注意的是，本曲题作《寄远》，也就是说女子的自白全都是对远方丈夫的倾诉。这样一来，女子的怨艾、诉苦、申盟、述感，都更增添了生活的真实性与个性化的色彩。“干闹了多时”，“本是结发的欢娱，倒做了彻骨儿相思”，于本身的含义外，还带上了某种似嗔似娇的情味。诗人能将闺中思妇的心理，语言表现得如此深切，是令人为之击节叹赏的。

乔吉(1280?～1345) 元代杂剧家、散曲作家。一称乔吉甫，字梦符，号笙鹤翁，又号惺惺道人。太原人，流寓杭州。钟嗣成在《录鬼簿》中说他“美姿容，善词章，以威严自饬，人敬畏之”，又作吊词云：“平生湖海少知音，几曲宫商大用心。百年光景还争甚？空赢得，雪鬓侵，跨仙禽，路绕云深。”从中大略可见他的为人。剧作存目十一，有《杜牧之诗酒扬州梦》、《李太白匹配金钱记》、《玉箫女两世姻缘》三种传世。
