梁间传出燕子的啼声，呢呢喃喃的。它们在说什么？竟将我的闲梦惊醒了。
别人如果知道我希望明白燕子的话语，那一定会惹人奇怪。于是一个人拄上拐杖带一壶美酒登芝山去吧。

题屏鉴赏
刘季孙曾在饶州（治所在今江西鄱阳县）担任酒务，专门管辖制酒和酒业税收。他是一个很孤独高傲，并淡泊名利的人。作为管税收的官员，在那时应该是个肥缺，但是诗中则明确指出诗人不会与世俗同流合污，这是一种为官清廉的承诺。
燕子呢喃是轻细悦耳的，一个心里没事的人不会被打扰。诗的字面意思翻成现在的话是想要听懂燕子的话而不被理解，而这仅仅是字面意思而已。即便是现在去和别人讨论燕子说的话，那也有人会觉得奇怪。而找不到知心的朋友，不被人理解，百般无聊的诗中人只好一个人携酒游芝山，消遣去了。不是前呼后拥，而是一个人拄上拐杖，仅带着美酒就去了。这就是诗人在表示自己的脾气和性格，或者说他的品格和道德观。
《石林诗话》中曾记载：王安石为江东提举刑狱时，巡查到此处，将要评估刘季孙的工作成绩。来到厅前，见屏风上题着这首诗。读罢大声称赞，一问左右，说是刘季孙所写，于是召他来谈诗论文，酒务方面的情况倒一句没提。等王安石回到旅驿，有不少此地的学子聚在门前，请求派一个主管教育的官，王安石马上就点刘季孙来主持。一时传为佳话。《千家诗》的注解里特别有这样一段话：难怪当年王安石作江东提刑时，巡查酒务到饶州，看到刘季孙厅屏上的这首诗后，就不再问酒务一事了。
刘季孙是北宋大将刘平之后，性格豪迈，文武全才，却出任小小的一介酒务俗吏，实在有点太委屈他。不过，刘季孙的诗却读不出筋骨尽露的浅躁之气，不是那种哭哭啼啼或跳脚大骂的风格，而是襟抱开阔，气度雍然。宋人很推崇这种气度，不喜欢罗隐那样尖锐直切的。正如宋代严羽《沧浪诗话》中所说：“其未流甚者，叫躁怒张，殊乖忠厚之风，殆以骂詈为诗，诗而至此，可谓一厄也”。这也是王安石读懂了诗中的喻意后，对他极为推许的原因。
抛开诗人的这种气度不讲，仅仅从诗歌条理来看，这诗中的人看似悠闲恬淡，其实还很寂寞，“说与旁人浑不解”一句，似乎透出有种郁郁不得志的抱怨，那么“杖藜携酒看芝山”就是对这种心情的解脱，虽然有些自嘲的意思，但也不失为洒脱。这种成熟的人生观，现在的读者读起来还是比较容易接受的。
