译文
寒冷的溪上飘满红色落叶，一路上山林寂静无人，树木整齐划一。试着登上小楼极目远眺，群山高低连绵。十里山坡，一片烟雾笼罩。
狗吠声夹杂着鸡鸣，灯光闪烁，找不到回去的路。沿着横亘之山而行，忽远忽近，时东时西。家在秋冬的林木深处，正孤独地关着门儿。
注释
南乡子：词牌名，原为唐教坊曲。分单调、双调两体：单调二十七字，两平韵、两仄韵；双调五十六字，上下片各四平韵，亦有五十八字或五十四字。
寒溪：寒冷的溪流。
齐：一致。这里意即秋天到了，万木都笼罩在一片肃杀的气氛中。
陂（bēi）：池塘、湖泊。
荧（yíng）荧：灯光闪烁的样子。唐杜牧《阿房宫赋》： “明星荧荧，开妆镜也。”
寒林：秋冬的林木。
扉（fēi）：门。

南乡子·秋暮村居创作背景
词人一路行来，空山寂寥，万木萧索，红叶满溪，便登楼眺望，暮色苍茫，有感而发，于是写下这首词，旨在描绘暮秋时节山耙的景象及当时的体验。

南乡子·秋暮村居鉴赏
该词先叙去“村居”的路上所见：“红叶满寒溪，一路空山万木齐。”这也是《秋暮村居》的第一个画面：它由“红叶”、“寒溪”、“空山”和“万木”构成。接下来是《秋暮村居》的第二个画面，第二个画面形成了三个小层次：
一、“一片烟笼十里陂。”这里“陂”是一个关键词。对这个词，注释者都解释为：“池塘”，或者是“积水，指池塘湖泊”。其实，这一句“望”的是远处，又是在“烟笼”的情境下“望”的，所以眼中的景象不是很分明：有池塘，有水边或者水岸，有山坡或者斜坡。这画面虽然很淡很淡，味道却是很浓很浓，同时也为下一个层次的推出，提供了极佳的背景。
二、“吠犬杂鸣鸡，灯火荧荧归路迷。”这一句整合了陶渊明的“狗吠深巷中，鸡鸣桑树颠”两句。其中，“吠”、“鸣”声把词人从远处拉到了眼前：狗叫声和鸡叫声此起彼伏或者同时并发。但是这“鸡鸣狗吠”（或“鸡犬相闻”），并不是这种现实情状，词人可能更把它当乍一种情趣的寄托，一种精神的追求。
三、“乍逐横山时近远，东西。家在寒林独掩扉。”在“相低昂”而悠悠的“钟梵”声里，目光又投向了“村居”的远山，可能由于那“一片烟”，也可能是视觉的灵动或者思绪的变幻，横着的远山竟然时而“近远”延缩，时而“东西”变换，可是那“在寒林”的人家，柴扉“独掩”，并没有随着远山的变幻而变换。这“东西”是“东方与西方”和“东边与西边”的空间方位，这个远山变幻而柴扉“独掩”层面的画意，令读者明白词人需要的就是“独掩”的与世隔绝那份淡定。
把第二个画面细分为三个层面来抒写，来解读，这是为了抒写、解读的方便，其实这三个层面是有内在的逻辑性的：有次第展开的景随望而布的客观性，情感随景的变换而变幻的主观性，情景交融，浑然一体。第一个画面的情感基调是萧瑟、忧愁，而第二个画面则是淡雅、欣赏。这样是为了表达的别致而独特：要去“秋暮村居”就是为了闲适，路上所见却非如愿，是那么的萧瑟、忧愁，这是一变；登楼所望则由迷蒙开始，这是顺承，接着核心的“秋暮村居”图，终于得到了“吠犬杂鸣鸡”的陶式闲适，满足了预期的意愿，这是二变；再是从变幻的远山到柴扉“独掩”，这是第三变。
全词以轻灵浑朴的笔调描绘出村野田园的风光情趣，读之犹如欣赏一幅优美安详，恬淡静谧的水墨山水画。景象由远及近，层次分明，动静相间，有声有色。其中洋溢着诗人陶然欣喜的情致，这在纳兰词中是少见的。尤其那点睛一般的双音节词语的巧妙运用更是让全篇风景霎时有了层次。于是一幅极具透视效果的风景画跃然纸上。

纳兰性德（1655－1685），满洲人，字容若，号楞伽山人，清代最著名词人之一。其诗词“纳兰词”在清代以至整个中国词坛上都享有很高的声誉，在中国文学史上也占有光采夺目的一席。他生活于满汉融合时期，其贵族家庭兴衰具有关联于王朝国事的典型性。虽侍从帝王，却向往经历平淡。特殊的生活环境背景，加之个人的超逸才华，使其诗词创作呈现出独特的个性和鲜明的艺术风格。流传至今的《木兰花令·拟古决绝词》——“人生若只如初见，何事秋风悲画扇？等闲变却故人心，却道故人心易变。”富于意境，是其众多代表作之一。
