译文
归期已经过半，但举目遥望南天，吴山越水，云遮雾障，虚幻缥缈，前路仍望不见头。离家几月转眼已是严冬，缺月的清辉洒满大地让离家的游子心生愁绪。夜深了，附近不知何人歌筵上的急管繁弦已经消散，报时的钟声稀稀疏疏，惊醒梦魂。回想当日分别时刻，簌簌珠泪，沾湿了她的罗衣。这般愁绪让人更添风霜啊。
你匆匆描过眉，深色凄迷憔悴的向我低诉：你这一去，山高水远，没有奴在身边，谁来疼你，对你嘘寒问暖呢？刚刚拉住伊人的手，让她亲切的叮咛嘱咐，眼前便见那飘飘浮云塞满了去路。我们恨透了离别，它给我们带来了多少的愁苦啊！
注释
新月：缺月，农历每月初出的弯形的月亮。
燎皎：形容明亮。
翠黛：眉的别称。古代女子用螺黛(一种青黑色矿物颜料)画眉，故名。
恹恹：精神不好，困倦的样子。
杳：远得看不见踪影。
蘼芜：一种香草，别名江蓠。“江蓠”谐音“将离”。

望湘人·记归程过半鉴赏
客中思家，早自《诗·魏风·陟岵》始，千百年来，一直就是诗歌中的传统题材。此类作品大都写于游子离家途中或在他乡住定之后，也就是说，写在游子与家人之间的空间距离正在不断拉长或已经拉长到了一定限度的时候。而本篇的作者却别出心裁，他选择了归程业已过半、与家人之间的空间距离正在不断缩短之中、羁旅生活行将告一段落这样一个时间点，来抒发自己的思家怀人之情。这种构思十分高明，其一，它不落前人窠臼，以生化熟，推陈出新，容易攫住读者；其二，当此渐行渐近之际，离愁别恨尚且浓重如许，那他更行更远、所行既远之前日、昨日的客中相思之苦极、痛极，岂不都在言外了吗？
“记归程过半”，起句便掐指计算回家的路走了多少，还剩多少，与南朝民间小乐府《懊侬歌》“江陵去扬州，三千三百里，已行一千三，所有（还有）二千在”同一机抒，归心似箭，不言面喻。“家住天南，吴烟越岫飘渺。”交待自己是从北方回南方。吴、越，指江、浙，春秋时大致分属吴、越两国，故称。作者为浙江海宁人，家正在越地。归期过半，一喜；但举目遥望南天，吴山越水，云遮雾障，若有若无，虚幻缥缈，又意识到“路曼曼其修远兮”，不禁转喜为忧。一波一折，笔有顿挫。“转眼秋冬，几回新月，偏向离人燎皎。”点出此番离家，不路一年（与篇末“春雨”字对勘，可知他出门之时为春天。去来节令，分置两端，有常山之蛇救首救尾的妙处），又告诉读者，这时正是冬天某个月的月初。一眨眼功夫便过了两个季节，当喜；但去家时间虽不甚长，却也备尝了离思的苦涩，于是心又一酸。三句仍为一起一伏，跌宕有致。“新月”是缺月，游子客中见此一钩缺月，自然会返现到人间的不团圆；何况这缺月光源还挺充足（燎皎，形容明亮），清辉洒满大地，叫人没法躲开；何况不只今夕此时是这样，且昨日，前夜、上个月、上上个月……已不知多少次“照得离人愁绝”(南唐冯延巳《三台令》）了。两句中层次甚厚，颇耐咀嚼。然而还不可忽过那个“偏”字。不直说自己见月生愁，却赋“新月”以主观意志，怪它存心刺激人，岂非无理取闹？实则文学艺术家只讲“情”不讲“理”，执着于“理”往往乏“趣”、乏“味”，无“理”而有“情”，方绝、方妙！苏轼《水调歌头·丙辰中秋》：“不应有恨，何事偏向别时圆？”是罪满月，本篇云云，是罪缺月。
以上三句，一笔绾住今昔，泛说较长一个时间段内的离愁。下文则留墨特定当下客馆中的孤苦况味：“急管宵残，疏钟梦断，客衣寒悄。”夜深了，附近不知何人歌筵上的急管繁弦已经消散，报时的钟声虽然稀疏，但在静夜中却显得特别警动，以致惊醒了词人的梦魂。当此万籁俱寂之际，他格外地感到了寒冷和孤独。于是，词人想念起他的妻子来：“忆临岐，泪染湘罗，怕助风霜易老。”他所最最不能忘怀的一幕，是当日分襟（“临岐”，到了岔路口。诗词中往往只作临别义用，不必呆看）的那一刻，簌簌珠泪，沾湿了她的罗衣。（由自己之“客衣”，引出伊人之“湘罗”，文心甚细，针脚遂密）。此情此景，一想一断肠呵。旅途风霜，本就使人憔悴，再加上相思之痛的折磨，恐怕人更老得快了。“助”字下得妙，读者试闭目冥搜，看能找出第二个字替去它否？“风霜”侵蚀人的肉体，“相思”啮咬人的精神，一自外攻，一从内“助”，不“老”何待！此一韵，上七字宕一笔忆“人”，下六字拖转来叙“我”，一推一挽，又是一度宛转。至此，上片四韵已有三番一韵之中前后排奡了，文情云谲波诡，不受控捉。
尽管相思无益，只“助风霜”摧人易老，可是，“怕相思，已相思，轮到相思没处辞”，奈何，回避不得，索性放笔直书。于是一换头便粘紧上结“忆临岐”云云，饱蘸浓墨，信手挥洒，将昔日的长亭弹泪之别写全写尽。“是尔翠黛慵描，正恹恹憔悴，身予低道。”上结已点出伊人“泪染湘罗”，此处更作一番渲染，使她别情依依的愁苦形象愈发明晰、丰满。所谓“翠黛慵描”（翠眉懒画）者，即元人王实甫笔下之“见安排着车儿马儿不由人熬熬煎煎的气，有甚么心情花儿靥儿打扮得娇娇滴滴的媚”是也。所谓“恹恹憔悴”者，亦即前人笔下之“听得道一声去也，松了金钏，遥望见十里长亭，减了玉肌”是也。以上盖借容颜、情态传神。下文改从言语生色：“向予低道：念此去谁怜，冷暖关山路杳？”你这一去，山高水远，没有奴在身边，谁来疼你，对你嘘寒问暖呢？（自己要多保重啊。）常语。常情。质朴无华。惟其为常语、常情，是天下千千万万个妻子在送别夫婿时都说出过的言语，才有着摇动人类心旌、勾摄人类魂魄的艺术魅力！才是天地间的至情、至语！“向予（我）”二字，已顺便带出了自己，故下文水到渠成，转述我当时的情态：“才携手教，款语丁宁，眼底征云缭绕。”刚刚拉住伊人的手，让她亲切的叮咛嘱咐，眼前便见那象征着“游子意的”飘飘浮云塞满了去路——尚未踏上征途，客愁已然不堪禁受了。于是，最后一韵便嘶声喊出既是当时又是现在、既是自己又是伊人心中的一团愤懑：“恨不剪，春雨蘼芜，牵惹愁怀多少！”“蘼芜”，一种香草，别名江蓠。“江蓠”谐音“将离”。二句不过是说：我们恨透了离别，它给我们带来了多少的愁苦啊！妙在并不直来直去，却采用了一种很别致的修辞手段来表达，你看他写得多么精彩！
