宋明州鄞县人，字炳如，一作炳儒。高闶从子。闻见博洽，多识典故。高宗绍兴三十年进士。调吴兴主簿。孝宗朝为太学博士兼国史院编修官，与修《四朝国史》。擢将作丞兼实录院检讨官，修《高宗实录》。又兼玉牒所检讨官，修《神宗玉牒》及《徽宗玉牒》。宁宗即位，历迁国子祭酒、中书舍人、实录院同修撰、同修国史等职。后以台臣言夺职。
