字叔衡，号玉轩，浙江诸暨枫桥陈家村人。幼好学，善属文。学者杨东里亟称其文，比之虞邵庵。明宣德四年（1429年）中式举人，次年联捷成进士。时宣宗留意文学，命引见会试进士百人，选其中20人亲试于殿，玑名列第四，授翰林庶吉士，帝亲赐御衣一袭，宝钞三百贯。
